In September of 2020, The Friends of Knox Farm State Park received a generous grant award from Parks & Trails, NY for $75,000 to restore the barns located at the main entrance of the Park.
That grant was matched by The Friends with $25,000 from our operating funds, and from a 2019 gift from The East Aurora Music Festival.
The NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation has since matched our $100,000 investment with labor and materials exceeding another $100,000!
Since the fall of 2020, NYS Parks and The Friends have been busy planning, budgeting, and contracting out the work to make that $200,000 stretch as far as we can make it. Here is where we are:
The Heifer Barn: (Pictured above) The work on this barn has been contracted out for both siding replacement and painting. Visible work began on this on June 2nd, 2021.
The Sheep Barn, Milk House, and Small "Cafe" building: NYS Parks has agreed to take the responsibility to repair, re-side, and paint these three buildings. Expect to see progress later this summer.
Show Barn, Dairy Barn, and Bull Shed: Extensive foundation repairs are necessary as a first phase to the restoration of these three structures. The State is currently conducting engineering studies and planning for this difficult work. Siding repairs and painting for these three barns will be put off until further funding can be secured.
